The UFC is back at the Apex after a very successful UFC 272 PPV event. We saw a ton of finishes, some all-out wars and a rivalry that found some closure. It definitely delivered on all cylinders.
For this weekend we have a stacked fight night event headlined by two top-ranked light heavyweights in Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev. The rest of this fight card is littered with top-tier talent like Marlon Moraes, Song Yadong, Sodiq Yusuff and Alex Pereira just to name a few. Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva

This is arguably the best fight of the entire night and it opens up the main card. We have a banger in the middleweight division between Alex Pereira and Bruno Silva.
The man whose claim to fame is being the one and only fighter to knockout current champion Israel Adesanya had a perfect octagon debut. His next-level power, his technical abilities, and his much improved grappling were on full display against Andreas Michailidis. He has the dangerous task of going toe to toe with another Brazilian knockout artist Bruno Silva.
Silva has hit the ground running winning all three of his UFC fights and all three by knockout. Granted his opposition was nowhere near the level of the striking abilities that Pereira possesses. Silva is not one to back down from a brawl so it’ll come down to who hits first and who hits the hardest.
Silva has a plethora of MMA experience which should give him some confidence coming into this fight. He has the ability to take Pereira down and exploit his glaring weakness. With that said, Silva isn’t one to shy away from an all-out brawl. He is going to go in there and try to beat Pereira in his own game and eventually get finished shortly thereafter.

Azamat Murzakanov vs. Tafon Nchukwi

This is another great matchup but this time in the light heavyweight division between two Contender Series alumni Azamat Murzakanov and Tafon Nchukwi. Murzakanov will be looking to keep his unbeaten streak going while Nchukwi will like to get on a roll.
Murzakanov is one of the top light heavyweight prospects coming into his UFC debut. He is a combat sambo champion but he also has some great technical abilities in his stand-up making him a threat everywhere.
Nchukwi came into his Contender Series with only a 3-0 professional record. He showed he belonged in the UFC with a vicious head kick knockout. Nchukwi can change the landscape of any fight with just a single strike.
But, this is just a very bad stylistic matchup for Nchukwi. Murzakanov is the much better grappler and is a lot faster on the feet. We have seen Nchukwi get taken down and controlled before so I expect Murzakanov to do just that and finish him with some ground and pound.

Gillian Robertson vs. JJ Aldrich

We have a fun scrap in the women’s flyweight division in a fight between Gillian Robertson and JJ Aldrich. Both fighters are going to be fighting hard in this one, which should make for an exciting fight.
Robertson is coming off of a first-round victory against Priscila Cachoeira where she submitted here with relative ease. She is such a wizard on the mat that once she gets you there it’s hard to get up and defend the submissions at the same time. That will play a vital role in her getting her hand raised this Saturday night.
Aldrich is as tough as they come as she has the never back down, always pushing forward type of mentality. She will have to be the one to push the pace, press forward and bring the fight to Robertson if she wants to get another win.
Aldrich is a good fighter but she’s not great anywhere, whereas Robertson is a great grappler even though she is lackluster on the feet. I believe Robertson’s ability to take this fight to the mat and end it there far outweighs her striking woes on the feet. It’s only going to take one takedown from Robertson to get the back of Aldrich and sink in the rear-naked choke for the win.
