Bryan Barberena looks for consecutive wins as he tests skills against Matt Brown on March 26th at UFC Columbus.

This welterweight clash is a re-booking from December. Following Brown testing positive for COVID, Darian Weeks eventually stepped up with Barberena garnering the unanimous decision win at UFC Fight Night: Font vs Aldo.

The Barberena versus Brown fight seemed lost at certain points in the overall timeline. But thankfully a contract came through to finally cement this exciting-looking fight.

There’s a respect factor and a healthy understanding this will be an extremely high octane, physically exhausting affair.

“He’s a legend in this sport,” Barberena told to The AllStar. “Been doing it for a long time. I remember watching him from The Ultimate Fighter. I am a fan. Respect the guy and everything he has done. But what really most excites me is the way he fights. He brings it, comes to put you away, and finish you. He’s hard-nosed, frickin tough.

“So that’s what excites me the most. He’s not going to come in there and just mess around, try to hold me and squeak by.”

“Bam Bam” sees his opponent as someone who is really good in the clinch, dangerous with elbows, and someone who really understands how to mix up his tools.

Barberena got back into the win column last time but did not feel fully satisfied. Didn’t feel like he put on the performance he wanted and has a chance to electrify this weekend in a big way.

Overcoming surgeries and a myriad of adversities through his career and life in general, Barberena is pushing forward to now finding himself positioned to possibly string together consecutive UFC wins for the first time since 2016.

“A whole lot of damage going on,” Barberena predicted about the fight. “Some back and forth. Obviously, I’m a realistic guy. There’s gonna be some back and forth. I’m gonna get hit, I know that. But you better believe I’m gonna hit him a lot. I one hundred percent believe the fight is going to be finished. It’s not going to make it the distance. If it does make it the distance then damn. We’re both going to be a bloody mess and it’s going to be a fight of the year contender.

“But I honestly don’t believe it’s gonna make it the distance. There’s gonna be a finish. You better believe I’m gonna give it my all to get that finish.”
