UFC middleweight Dustin Stoltzfus wasn’t fazed by late replacement Gerald Meerschaert stepping up to fight him at UFC Vegas 45. In fact, he was expecting it.

“We were given his name pretty much right after I signed the Caio [Borralho] fight because we knew there might be an issue with his visa and another German fighter was supposed to be fighting Meerschaert. And we also heard that so we knew that it might be a possibility that I don’t fight Caio.
To the German-American, getting to fight Meerschaert is actually a blessing in disguise. The opportunity to fight a UFC veteran with much more experience than himself, Stoltzfus sees a fair test and a winnable fight.
“My team was actually more excited for that fight. As I mean, Meerschaert’s a vet. He has three times more fights than I have. A really solid fighter, been in this sport for a very long time. It’s an awesome matchup to test my skills with and it’s a doable fight. Keep saying this, my other two fights were also doable and I lost those. But it’s definitely a fight I can win. Just need to connect the dots and keep sharp.”
Despite GM3’s experience advantage, Stoltzfus believes himself to be the overall better combatant. “I just need to make sure wherever we are that I’m pushing my pace and that I’m technically clean cause I think I’m the better martial artist. I think my technique is better on the feet and on the ground. And I also think I’m the better athlete.
Regardless of where the fight goes and what it looks like, Stoltzfus believes he can get the win. “If I can keep it clean, technical and I’ll think I’ll have a good advantage. If it gets ugly, I know how to fight ugly too.”
