“If either of us are caught lacking, someone’s going to sleep” Josh Culibao on Seung Woo Choi at UFC 275

Josh Culibao is competing on the heels of his first UFC victory. Albeit a win that took place a bit over one year ago against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at UFC Fight Night: Font vs Garbrandt.

The victory further galvanized his spirit and made him finally feel like a UFC fighter. Sporting a record of 0-1-1 across his first pair of Octagon outings, Culibao was in a bit of a spot.

There was an attempt at booking a bout against Damon Jackson in March of this year. But Culibao had a myriad of unpleasant side effects from a bout with COVID-19 that really set him back.

The 28-year-old Culibao tests skills with Seung Woo Choi at UFC 275 on June 11th in Singapore.

Culibao gets in work with UFC lightweight Jamie Mullarkey and former ONE Championship dual division title holder Martin Nguyen to name but a couple. Great work transpires with many martial artists throughout Australia but Igor MMA Academy is the primary base of operations.

This stylistic matchup is one that has the potential to get people talking this weekend.

“I think it’s going to be an aggressive fighter vs a counter fighter,” Culibao told The AllStar. “He’s the aggressive fighter, I am the counter fighter. It could go a few ways (in) this fight. But I do see it being a very technical but also a very entertaining fight. The standup is going to be a pretty good showing. I think it’s going to be very entertaining. We both have that knockout punch.

“If either of us are caught lacking, someone’s going to sleep. Personally, I think it’s a great fight. When this fight got offered as soon as they brought up that name, I knew straight away it was going to be a banger of a fight. I know how tough he is and I’m not taking him lightly at all.”

The Filipino-Aussie’s fight prediction is mindful of war and focuses on this upcoming clash as a war of attrition.

“I’m expecting a fight that’s going to be pretty high volume, pretty high pace. A lot of damage is going to be done to both of us. I’m expecting that sort of fight. I’m not expecting to put away Choi that quickly. Not expecting an easy fight. Not expecting for like a first-round fight. I’m expecting three rounds, me and him are going to be banged and bruised. We’re going to be fighting all the way to the last bell.”
