Josh Silveira has found a perfect home with the PFL.
Under the guidance of his father, MMA pioneer Marcus “Conan” Silveira, and American Top Team owner Dan Lambert, the decision to join the Professional Fighter’s League was made collectively with his team.
“They all straight up told me that we think the PFL is great for you,” Silveria told The AllStar. “I’m only 7-0. There’s a lot more experience out there. Why rush to go to the UFC? If I want to go for the fame maybe go. But if I want to go smart, respect the game. You gotta respect the game.
“I feel like PFL put me in the right place at the right time. I’ll be able to get 4, 5 fights this year. Put a little money in my pocket. Get to enjoy myself a little bit. Continue this journey.”
The journey up to this point has seen Silveira stack up seven straight victories as a professional with the LFA middleweight and light heavyweight titles. These accolades have led him to a main event spot in the inaugural PFL Challenger Series on February 18 against Mohamed Juma.
“You put everything aside. Put the PFL, everything aside. Just put Josh Silveira’s MMA career. I just fought in December, I’ll be fighting again in February. On paper, it looks like I’m keeping it rolling. We’re doing something right. I don’t see anything changing.
“I’m going to let the fight develop. Looking for the finish obviously and just keep it going. I fight in February. I’ll be back in April. I’m telling you I’m just gonna keep this ball going until some better deals come up. I like where I’m at right now and I like that I’m fighting in February. It’s like a little warm-up.”
With the possibility of fighting teammates during the 2022 PFL season, it can become a difficult ordeal for many individuals. Silveira does not see it that way.
“The hard part is the journey,” Silveira said. “Getting to the big show. [Fighting each other] is the easy part. We came, we’re here, let’s make money together. Let’s do great things. I don’t think having my teammates in the tournament is a bad thing. I think it’s a great thing. At the end of the day, they can financially do something for themselves and we can all do it. That’s what you want to do as friends, right? You want to grow with your friends.
“I don’t have no [envy] in my heart. Fighting is a glorious sport. So whatever you get going for you, you deserve. And if you don’t deserve it, eventually somebody will take it away from you. It’s just one of those sports.”
Will the son of famed coach Conan Silveira win the 2022 PFL tournament?
