UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal’s legal proceedings seem to be moving at a snail’s pace as his trial date sees yet another delay.

“Gamebred” is expected to face charges related to his involvement in the alleged attack on Colby Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse in March of this year, which left his bitter rival with a fractured tooth and abrasions on his wrist. Covington alleged Masvidal ambushed him, punching him twice in the face before getting away – though the latter entered a written plea of not guilty not long after the incident.

It now looks as if the former 170-pound title challenger will avoid having to plead his case inside of a courtroom until February of 2023, according to a report by MMA Juinkie, the judge granting a continuance upon requests made by both the defendant and plaintiff.

If found guilty, Masvidal may face up to 15 years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 for second-degree felony aggravated battery, with further penalties stemming from a criminal mischief charge.

FOTN Guaranteed:

Soo yesterday @Newmansa94 asked if I'm gonna shoot on him, cause he wants fight of the night. I am 100% percent down for this. We can touch gloves and meet in the center and stay there for 15 minutes. No running. First to back out or shoot is a timid soul. I want FOTY. #UFC282

On this day in MMA…

On the 18th of November, 2008, both Dan Hardy and Jim Miller made their UFC debut at UFC 89 in Birmingham, England.

Hardy, an eventual challenger to George St. Pierre’s welterweight reign, faced Akihiro Gono at the top of the preliminary card, defeating him via a split decision on the judge’s scorecards.

Miller would also walk away from his own bout with a hand raised following his submission of Frenchman David Baron in the third round, winning himself a submission of the night bonus for his efforts.

Hardy would retire from competition in 2012 while suffering from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. He left the UFC with a promotional record of 6-4. Miller, still active in the organization at 39 years old, currently holds the record for both Most UFC fights at 40, and most wins inside the UFC at 24. His most recent victory came opposite Donald Cerrone at UFC 276 in July of 2022.
