UFC 275 has lost a main card attraction.

Rogerio Bontorin was hospitalised yesterday due to complications cutting weight, just hours before he was scheduled to take the scales, leaving the surging Manel Kape without an opponent in Singapore this weekend.

Speaking with Guilherme Cruz, Bontorin’s coach addressed the situation:

“He was in the process of cutting weight and felt a lot of pain in the lumbar area when he was 2kg [4.5 pounds] over, then he left the bathtub and it only got worse. We called Marcus, from the UFC staff, to check on him and we needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. We ran some tests and he had renal insufficiency, so he’ll stay in the hospital until tomorrow…”

The preliminary welterweight bout between Jake Matthews and Andre Fialho has replaced the fizzled fight on the pay-per-view card.

The call

Mexico’s star in the making, UFC flyweight Victor Altamirano, breaks down the ‘peoples’ main event this weekend between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jędrzejczyk.

“Those two are both bangers! I think that Weili can win by decision, and although she has better grappling than Joanna, she tends to keep it standing. Joanna can win via TKO or decision.

I would pick Joanna”

Jedrzejczyk can currently be found for plus money odds on crypto sports book Cloudbet:

Main event odds update

Teixeira +175
Prochazka -200
Shevchenko -500
Santos +400

Interesting line movement

The market lines between Matthews and Fialho have seen significant movement over the last few days, tightening faster as we close in on the weekend. This is more than likely fuelled by their recent repositioning to the PPV main card.

Matthews, the Aussie veteran, has been gaining increasing traction with punters in the last 48 hours; he’s currently up near 40 points from his original +160 opening, while Fialho, the power-house newcomer, slides in the opposite direction.

Will the eight-year UFC veteran’s experience prove too much for the rocketing Fialho?

Bettors are seemingly warming up to that notion at plus money odds.

MAtthews +113
Fialho -125

On this day in MMA…

On June 11, 2011, future UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos defeated Shane Carwin by unanimous decision at UFC 131.

The brawl would earn dos Santos a $100,000 bonus, and leave him poised to snatch the 265-pound title from Cain Velasquez in his next fight the following year.
