Sean Woodson is in a buoyant mood ahead of his fight with Luis Saldaña at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 20th.

Woodson is coming off a hand injury that has kept him out of action for nine months but he is still carrying a tremendous amount of confidence heading into this featherweight bout.

The 30-year-old’s positivity seems to partly stem from seeing Saldaña’s performance in his previous contest against Bruno Souza at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs Daukaus last March.

“That was a close fight. That could have gone either way. I’m not too sure if he even won that one,” Woodson told TheAllStar. “I can tell he doesn’t like dealing with pressure too much. I think it’s a really good match-up for me, for sure. I can’t wait to get in there with him.”

With that being said, Woodson recognized that Saldaña is a formidable opponent and highlighted the various strengths that he possesses.

“I know he trains with a lot of solid opponents. I’m really excited to get in there and put my skills to the test against him.”

“He’s really experienced, trains at a really good camp – Fight Ready, one of the best gyms in the world,” Woodson said. “He trains with a lot of other UFC fighters, he’s well rounded.”

“He has just as many finishes by knockout and he does by submission.”

Saldaña has proven to be a difficult opponent to land on during his UFC run, as he has registered an impressive 62% striking defense average.

Woodson added that preparing to compete with someone of Saldaña’s caliber had provided him with extra drive. “I want to have these opponents that I have a bunch of good things to say about. It motivates me. I don’t want to fight clowns; I want to fight other killers.”

The Missouri native stated that he would adopt an aggressive approach, which he explained is partly due to frustration with how some of his previous fights have played out.

“I’m coming for the finish. That’s definitely going to be on my mind from bell to bell.”

“I’ve been in there a few times where I had the finish at the tip of my finger and I let it go or could have had the finish and didn’t get it. When I watch film of myself, I can’t wait to get back in there and hunt the finish even more.”
