UFC: Chad Anheliger aims to tire and take out Jesse Strader

Chad Anheliger collides with Jesse Strader on February 19th at UFC Vegas 48. This bantamweight bout transpires at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The AllStar’s John Hyon Ko spoke with Anheliger in the lead-up to his UFC debut.

Importance Of Contender Series

Anheliger’s appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series against Muin Gafurov was an important bout. One where the Canadian admitted to being pushed to his limits like never before.

Overcoming all of that and securing the split decision win not only made a dream trek to the Octagon a reality. But also was something that galvanized Anheliger’s confidence like never before.

“It was a big fight,” Anheliger said. “That’s what it’s about. That’s what I want. That was the buildup I wanted. The commitment level is never higher, the drive for me to train and win.

“As you get longer in your career, each fight has more and more at stake and that’s what I thrive off of. It motivates me and I kinda have this habit of rising to the occasion when I get those opportunities. I plan on continuing that trend.”

The Calgary combatant went back to Canada after that September win to hone his skills further at the well-regarded Champions Creed.

A space where Anheliger bolsters his abilities alongside notable names like UFC featherweight Hakeem Dawodu.

The physical tools are sharpened and the mindset component relating to game planning for Strader also seems on point.

“I think Jesse’s still dangerous,” Anheliger added. “He’s very athletic, strong, explosive. Those skills need to be respected.”

“I do think I’m better than him. I think I’ve got better skills, better striking, better grappling. I’m really going to be relying on those skills because I do think he’s dangerous. Especially with his athleticism, strength, explosiveness. That’s not a joke to me. I’m still gonna be training hard and making sure I’m dealing with that properly.”

Deep Waters

The 35-year-old Anheliger captured the Rise FC flyweight title as well as the Rise FC bantamweight title during his MMA ascent on Canada’s regional circuit.

“The Monster” is riding a nine-fight winning streak and in giving his fight prediction, sees the confluence of his pace and depth of resume as what will guide him to double-digit winning streak territory.

“I’m going to tire him out and then I’m going to take him out,” Anheliger stated. “I’m going to use my experience and use my pressure. Going to have to deal with some of his skills early on. But I know that I’m going to be overcoming them. Slowly adding onto that gas pedal until he just can’t keep up. So I’m excited because I feel really confident everywhere. Don’t feel like I have to get a takedown or stop a takedown.

“I just feel like I can go in there, be me, and it’s just going to go great. I’ve trained so hard to make sure nothing stupid happens to me in there. I’m just going to go in there and kind of let my skills do the talking. I’m going to have too much for him. He’s going to get knocked out or he’s going to end up shooting in. Getting tapped out, beat up on the ground. I’ve seen it so many different ways because I have so many paths to victory. It’s a good feeling.”
