William Hill is one of the oldest and most recognised names in British bookmaking. Founded in 1934, William Hill bookies were at one time a mainstay of the British High Street. These days, although some retail outlets remain, the vast majority of business happens online. We’ll explore this offering in our in-depth William Hill Sportsbook Review.
A lot of online sportsbooks that don’t have the pedigree of a name like William Hill will often use headline-grabbing Welcome Bonus offers or other big promotions to win your business. William Hill has no need for that, and their standard sign-up offer is a very simple Free Bet offer: Bet £10 and receive £30 in free bets.
William Hill Sportsbook Review
The William Hill sportsbook offers all the major sports and competitions, as you would expect – and a few you might not. It’s worth remembering that as a British site, you wont find any Soccer listed, but there is a lot of Football. You’ll find your NFL games listed under American Football. The Hockey you’ll find here is the version played across the world on turf, not the North American version played on ice. But Ice Hockey is offered too.
Most any sportsbook these days will offer a wide variety of sports that you may know little, or next to nothing about. In line with its geography and customer base, there are sports like Gaelic Hurling and Gaelic Football that are played in Ireland which you’ll be hard-pushed to find offered by a US-based sportsbook. If you’re used to US sportsbook, you might even enjoying exploring some of the differences.

Sports Betting Experience
Willian Hill’s site and sports offering is comprehensive in terms of sports covered and markets on offer, but we did experience some functional issues during the course of writing this William Hill Sportsbook Review.
The UI itself is pretty basic, but functional – which at the end of the day is all you really need, but it doesn’t look or feel as slick as many of its competitors. That said, the look and feel is essentially inline with the brand itself and the idea that it doesn’t really need to sell itself.
It’s as if the operators are confident enough that the William Hill brand will stand on its own, unreliant on image or glitz.
The homepage look is fairly standard, with sports listed A-Z as below:
American Football (NFL, NCAA, CFL) | Golf | Pool |
Australian Rules | Greyhounds | Rugby League |
Badminton | Golf | Rugby Union |
Baseball | Handball | Snooker |
Basketball (NBA, NCAA) | Hockey | Squash |
Boxing | Horse Racing | Table Tennis |
Cricket | Ice Hockey | Tennis |
Cycling | Lacrosse | TV/Specials |
Darts | Lotteries | UFC |
Esports | Motor Racing | Virtual World |
Football (Soccer) | Motorbikes | Volleyball |
GAA Football | Netball | Water Polo |
GAA Hurling | Politics | Winter Sports |
As an English sportsbook, it should come as no surprise that the focus on football is high. To that end, a lot of William Hill’s promotions are football related.
Enhanced odds
On football markets, look for Enhanced Odds special offers that sit at the top of the page. These are the same as “boosted” or “best” odds that you might have seen elsewhere. They’re hard to miss, what with the bright yellow highlights.

Footy Accums / Build #YourOdds
While some sites have parlay and multi-bet builders, William Hill handles this a little differently. There are two options for building parlays, or accumulators, which you will see abbreviated as “Accums” or “Accas”.
The first is a straight forward multi-bet builder, but is only allowed on select matches. If the game you chose to bet on is available as part of the Build #Your Odds accumulator, it is clearly marked. This is cool, because not all sites will take same-game accumulators.
10,000/1 or +1,000,000
You can build your accumulator to the point where the odds hit 10,000/1 – or in the American odds format , +1,000,000. (If you’re not familiar with different odds formats, use our Betting Odds Converter to do the work for you.)
Your accumulator will also accommodate up to eight bets, as long as the combined odds are within the limit. Therefore, for example, if you select only six bets but you hit the 10,000/1 limit, you cant add further selections.
The second, and somewhat more entertaining way to Build #Your Odds, is to draw up the multi-bet that you want to create, and post this to @WilliamHill on Twitter, using the hashtag #YourOdds. You can also hit them up via FB Messenger.
If the book decides to offer you odds on your proposed bet, they’ll post them to Twitter and link you to your request:

This is a great way for the sportsbook to interact with its community, and for the community to see what other bettors are thinking… are to get ideas on where to place the next bet.
Smart Acca
Smart Acca is a tool to allow you to find football/soccer accumulators easily by selecting a series of filters to narrow down your options.

Click through and add filters to find accumulator/parlays that suit your needs. Select:
- Games today or tomorrow
- Competition
- Match bets or Player bets
- The prop you fancy
- How you would like William Hill to calculate the stats, from Season data, Last 5 Matches, Head-to-Head or Home/Away
TV/Specials
Very much aimed at a domestic audience – although all these shows can be viewed more easily around the world these days – William Hill offers some fun specials, including markets on popular TV competition shows.
Shows like Strictly Come Dancing – the British parent of US off-shoot Dancing with the Stars – and I’m a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here! regularly pull in tens of millions of viewers each week. Week to week, you can bet on who will be eliminated next, or place an outright bet on the series Winner.
More internationally, there are markets for the Oscars and other big award shows; the uniquely European Eurovision Song Contest; and bringing it back to the UK, the Christmas Number 1 single (current front-runner, British sausage-roll-loving YouTuber LadBaby).
Lotteries
Users can bet on the Irish, New York, Australian, Canadian, French, German and Polish Lottos, along with a Daily Millions and a 49’s draw. The odds, on 5-, 6- and 7-ball lottos vary, but as well know, winning payouts can be life-changing.
Live Betting / In-Play Betting
The live betting, or in-play betting, is also comprehensive at William Hill.
When sports are live, you’ll find all you need at William Hill for tennis, the NFL, MLB, NBA, all the big football leagues like the EPL, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and other popular sports.

In-play options on this ATP Challenger Tour match include markets on the match, set, games and points results.
The Over/Under on total games played (with or without picking the winner); second set winner, second set correct scores; and whether or not there’ll be a tiebreak in the match.

For this NBA Heat vs Timberwolves game, because there’s so little time left on the clock, the only active markets still open are the spread bets – the Timberwolves with a 2-point lead trying to cover 2.5 points – and the match result.
However, you can see the Popular Markets bets, Handicaps, and various Player props available (points, rebounds, assists, 3-pointers and so on)
Sign-up Bonus
Many online sportsbooks rely on generous promotions that offer substantial sums of money to attract your business. These can often amount to thousands of dollars.
However, with a certain level of confident nonchalance that comes from knowing your brand has solid inherent value, William Hill essentially does the opposite.
The standard sign-up offer is this: Bet £10 and receive £30 in free bets.

Not only is this sum limited compared to many others, but the 40x wager requirement is substantial too. Elsewhere this might fall within in a 5x-25x range.
What’s more, you can’t even chose how to spend those funds yourself – they come as two £15 bets. At least you can use your free bets in accumulators and other offers.
Other Promotions
Scratch of the Day
Scratch of the Day is a virtual scratch card that gives players a risk-free chance to win a prize daily. If all three of your scratch boxes reveal the same underlying prize, you’re a winner!
Prizes generally take the form of:
- Bet x and Get x
- Price Boosts
- Get x if x happens
For example, “Bet £5 on the World Cup and get a £5 free bet on horse racing”, “Get a price boost when you bet on darts”, or “Get a £5 free bet if there are 3 goals in the featured match tonight”. If you win, be sure to opt-in to claim your prize.
Acca Freedom
Acca Freedom is a cool feature that gives you some freedom to make decisions around your accumulator/parlay/acca.
Either, on bets that have three components or more, you can choose to boost your odds, to win more, or, on bets that have five or more components, you can chose to insure against any one-leg failing to hit, and receive your money back as a free bet of up to £20.
There are, as is the norm, terms and conditions that apply, so be sure to read these in full before playing.
Free or 4
From a select list of matches for that game week, chose six games in which you think 3 or 4 goals will be scored and you could win £200 in free bets.
If all six of your chosen matches hit with three or four goals scored, you win £200 in free bets, in the form of 8x £25 bets.

Racing Promotions
For those with an inclination towards the horses, William Hill’s traditional stomping ground, you can enjoy Extra Places paying out on each-way bets, thus increasing your chances of winning versus the heartache of narrowly missing out.
You can also enjoy a daily Bet Boost on £20 max bets (and £20 each-way) on the horses or greyhounds.

Creating an account – KYC
At the first step of creating an account, William Hill does ask for a mailing address, which is one KYC step further than most sportsbooks take at this early stage. For some, this may feel reassuring, others might view it as a higher barrier to entry and a bit of a turn-off.
And it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve chosen a Username and a Password, you need to choose a security question, and answer it, then select you preferred currency to play with.
The next step is also not one asked by any other sportsbook we’ve reviewed, but it’s a nice touch and sits aligned with the site’s commitment to Responsible Gaming. At this point, you are asked to select a betting limit, which can be done Daily, Weekly or Monthly, and can be chosen from a fairly wide range.
However, this scale also varies between currencies chosen. If you chose to play in British Pounds, the max choice is £20,000, but if you choose to play in Canadian Dollars, this jumps to C$250,000.
Still, this works best if you’re a recreational player who values the ability to cap your action and prevent yourself from the temptation of chasing any losses. For example, you might be happy to play with £500 a month, but no more.
That said, “No limit” is an option if you’re so inclined.
Trustworthiness
In operation since 1934, William Hill is to UK bookmakers what any of the big-name Vegas casino operators are to US sportsbooks.
Along with the likes of Ladbrokes, William Hill is where any British teenager went for that rights-of-passage moment to place a bet on the Grand National in the days before the internet brought easy access into your home.

In this day and age, William Hill continues to operate at the highest standard and is as trustworthy a bookmaker as you’ll find online.
Spend any time on site and it is clear that it takes it takes Responsible Gambling seriously, with nice touches like allowing users to set their gaming limits. The questions asked at the point of registration also affirm an air of credible responsibility in the way the site conducts business.
Is William Hill legit?
Absolutely.
The website is operated by a company licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission of Great Britain.
