Reputations are on the line this March Madness. Not just for the college players competing or their teams, but for NBA stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
The Warriors teammates have a bet on Friday’s game between 7th seed Michigan State and 10th seed Davidson. The teammates are of course alumni of the respective colleges. Green helped guide the Spartans to two Final Four appearances and Curry holds the all-time scoring record for Davidson.
“My Spartan dogs is going into Greenville, South Carolina, which is essentially a home game for Davidson, and we’re going to destroy Steph Curry’s Davidson Wildcats”, said Draymond Green on his podcast.
Green is so confident that Michigan State will get the job done against Davidson that he’s made a number of bets with his teammate. Should the Spartans defeat the Wildcats, Stephen Curry has agreed to enter the arena dressed as their mascot Sparty.
“There will be some good bets. There will be a monetary bet. There will be a bet of Steph Curry walking into the game with a Sparty costume. No, no, no, not just with my jersey, not just a Michigan State T-shirt, he will come to a game as the Michigan State Spartans mascot (Sparty).”
It could turn out to be safe bet for Curry. The lesser-ranked Davidson team opened as 1-point favorites. Davidson had an impressive season going 27-6 and earning the A-10 regular season title. They also managed to pick up a road win against Alabama who are now 6th seeds for March Madness.
Green however remains upbeat about Michigan State’s chances. “The second round matchup is Duke. You know what Coach Izzo say – ‘You get me the first game of the weekend, I’ll get you the second one’. I have no doubt in my mind that he’s going to get me the second one.”
Coach Izzo will be making his record-tying 24th consecutive March Madness appearance this year. He’s had eight Final Four appearances and one national title so don’t expect his Spartans to go out without a fight.
Michigan State take on Davidson at 9:40 EST on Friday with their famous alumni sure to be watching with great interest.
