“Well, the fight is in Vegas, so I got to knock him out. If it goes to the judges, I’m not going to fucking win.”
That was Canada’s Tanner Boser, who has a grudge against judges in Las Vegas. Two of his last three fights have ended with him on the other side of the winner’s scorecard, and it has left a nasty taste in his mouth. First, he lost a unanimous decision to UFC legend Andrei Arlovski and then a split decision to Ilir Latifi in his next outing.
MMA judging has been notoriously bad the last few years, but the heavyweight fighter has no idea how to fix it in the long run. For him, though, and the bad luck he has had with the judges, it will alter the way he fights from now on.
“I don’t know a solution, man. I’m a fighter, and it’s beyond me. All I know is; unfortunately, I’m now willing to go throw caution to the wind a lot more because I do not trust those judges,” Boser told The AllStar.
Not leaving his fight to the judges should not be hard for Boser to do, as he has knocked out three of his last five opponents. In his last outing, he knocked out Ovince Saint Pruex in the prelim headliner of UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai. It took him two rounds.
Boser faces another hard-hitting tough Brazilian at UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Andrade, Rodrigo Nascimento. The Brazilian defeated Alan Baudot in his most recent matchup; however, he tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for six months.
“He’s tough. I think he’s got good grappling, good jiu-jitsu, good ground and pound. On the feet, he is solid, and he’s aggressive. He comes at you. He’s a tough challenge for sure, but at the same time, he’s nothing that I haven’t seen before,” Boser said.
“The Bulldozer” hopes his opponent on April 23 stays aggressive when they fight because he’s used to it.
“I haven’t had guys running away from me, honestly. I’m used to fighting aggressive guys. A long time ago, I used to always be fighting the aggressive types who would just come forward, and I would pick them apart and move. But I’ve changed, and I’ve wanted to change. I’m knocking guys out now. If he wants to come at me, I don’t care. He can stand there and figure it out,” Boser said.
