Will Sterling take home the crown at UFC 273?
Yanez explains what Sterling needs to implement to defeat Yan:
“[Sterling] has to make an adjustment when Petr Yan makes an adjustment. As we saw in this Cory Sandhagen fight, volume just isn’t going to cut it [against Yan]. You have to be able to change. You have to literally fight the fight of your career, the fight of your life. You have to be perfect. Someone like Petr Yan, he’s really good at making those adjustments. He’s really good at making reads.
“If he gets Petr to the ground, he has to make the most of it. He can’t just let stuff go. He has to control. He has to make sure he gets a good securing top position and kinda wear Petr Yan out a little bit. You can’t let him get comfortable cause the minute you let him become comfortable is the minute he makes the most reads. That’s where he makes the best adjustments and that’s whenever he’s looking for the kill shot.
“Whenever it’s time to put volume, [Sterling] has to put volume. When it’s time to fake the wrestling he has to fake the wrestling. Whenever he actually has to shoot the wrestling, he actually has to go to wrestling. Then, whenever he has him on his back, he gonna have to keep to chaining stuff together cause Petr Yan is gonna fight tooth and nail to get back to his feet. And if he gets on top, he’s looking to end you. There’s a lot of things Aljamain is going to have to do. It’s not an easy fight but with the skillset that Aljo has, after seeing him train and seeing what he does, he has the skills to beat him. It’s just that he has to be on his P’s and Q’s the whole entire night.”
