The blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to Phoenix has transformed them into instant title contenders. Fans will have to wait for Durant to make his highly-anticipated debut as the two-time NBA champion is currently out injured with a right knee MCL sprain.
Phoenix have already assessed Durant’s injury and so far nothing has changed with his timetable. The Brooklyn Nets had already said that Durant would need to spend an extensive time on the sidelines after injuring his knee on January 8 against the Miami Heat.
Suns coach Monty Williams was asked about Durant’s debut but stated that he did not have a timetable for it.
Kevin Durant is already working out
The good news for Suns fans is that Kevin Durant is already working out. He wasn’t a full participant at the Suns’ practice but it was noted that he didn’t wear a knee brace and looked healthy when driving to the basket.
He spent the session working one-on-one with Phoenix assistant coach Jarrett Jack.
Potential debut against the OKC Thunder
Kevin Durant could make his Phoenix Suns debut right after the All-Star break when the Suns host the Oklahoma City Thunder on 24 February.
Phoenix’s biggest priority will be winning a championship so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they decide to keep Durant out for longer or place a minutes restriction on him.
When will Kevin Durant play Kyrie Irving?
The former Brooklyn teammates could face off on March 5 when Phoenix travel to play Dallas. The two teams have an intense rivalry with Dallas knocking out Phoenix in the second round of the playoffs last year.
Dallas has won two of the first three meetings this season against Phoenix. A postseason encounter could be on the cards given both teams share similar records.
