UFC has been forced to drop a fight from its UFC 265 mixed martial arts (MMA) event scheduled for August 7, 2021. The UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship bout between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña has been removed from the fight card as Nunes tested positive for Covid-19.
Had the fight taken place, the betting odds were in favor of Nunes at -840 while Peña was the betting underdog at +580.
Nunes most recently appeared at UFC 259, taking on and defeating Megan Anderson via Submission in a Featherweight title bout. Nunes went into the fight as a massive -775 Favorite. The victory extended her winning streak to 12 in a row.
Peña most recently appeared at UFC 257, taking on and defeating Sara McMann via Submission in a Bantamweight bout. Peña went into the fight as the +100 Near Even. The win marked a return to the win column for Peña since her loss to Germaine de Randamie in 2020.
UFC 265 will now proceed with 13 bouts. The UFC is expected to announce the revised fight card shortly to make it official. This is the 1st fight to be cancelled on this card.
UFC 265 is headlined by a UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship fight between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane.
