The UFC heavyweight debut of Jon Jones is going to have to wait a little while longer.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion revealed on Twitter that he will wait until September to face former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
According to sources close to the matter, an interim heavyweight title fight was offered to Miocic to fight Jones at UFC 276. But when Jones found out that Miocic would not be ready to fight this summer, he went to Twitter to share his thoughts.
“Stipe is saying that he will be at his absolute peak in September,” Jones wrote. “I’m disappointed but patient, I want the heavyweight goat at his absolute best. I’ll wait until September. No excuses.”
Jones last competed in the UFC in February 2020 at UFC 247, where he defeated Dominick Reyes to defend his former light heavyweight title. Since then, Jones has floated a move to the heavyweight division and has been adding size in preparation for the weight class change.
