Hermansson has experienced ups and downs over the past couple of years, going 3-2 in his last five fights. Strickland on the other hand is riding a five-fight winning streak, three of which came at Middleweight.

Hermansson and Strickland both sit in the top ten Middleweight rankings. While the fight isn’t being treated as a title eliminator, either fighter is likely one or two wins away from a title shot.

True to form, Strickland hasn’t held back with his words since the fight was announced in December, claiming he wants to ‘take Hermansson’s soul.’

Strickland told MMA Junkie:

“I want to take everything from him. I want to watch him bleed. I want to watch him hurt.”

Jack Hermansson returned to the win column with a resounding victory over Edmen Shabazyan. Over the fight, he showcased his dominant top game and brutal ground-and-pound skills.

Hermansson has had a couple of hiccups in the last two years, losing by KO to Jared Cannonier before a decisive loss against Marvin Vettori.

Sean Strickland

Since returning to Middleweight for his October 2020 fight against Jack Marshman, Strickland has looked indomitable. An impressive KO victory over Brendan Allen (a 195lb catchweight bout) was followed by dominant decisions over Krzysztof Jotko and Uriah Hall.

A volume-striker with a seemingly inexhaustible gas tank, Strickland wears his opponents down by constantly moving forward and throwing hands.

UFC fighter and coach James Krause made the following prediction:

“The only way Hermansson can win is by grappling. Outgrappling Strickland for 25 minutes is going to be tough. Strickland is very similar to Vettori. They are just good across the board.”

Jack Hermansson is likely to utilize his polished grappling during the fight. Not only will he have the advantage on the ground, but it will offer respite from Strickland’s relentless onslaught.
