Top European Bantamweight Mokaev Favors Figueiredo Over Moreno. But there’s a catch.

Muhammad Mokaev sees the third match in the Moreno vs. Figueiredo trilogy going to Deiveson Figueiredo – but only if the Brazilian can finish the fight early.

The flyweight fight has a very different finish if it goes the distance at UFC 270 in January, Mokaev told The AllStar’s John Hyon Ko. The smaller Brandon Moreno is more athletic and likely to outlast Figueiredo over five rounds, he said.

Mokaev, one of the top bantamweight prospects from Europe and a recent UFC signing, was commenting on the latest match-up in an intriguing series of fights. The first ended in a draw, while the rematch saw Moreno finish Figueredo by rear-naked choke in the third round.

In the next fight, Figueiredo “will be hungry a little bit more I believe. Also, he’s a big flyweight. For one, two rounds he’s strong but third, fourth, fifth, he slows down. Moreno is a smaller flyweight. Not small but smaller than Figueiredo but more athletic and could go to distance. For example, the fight against Asker Askerov.”

“I think Figueiredo maybe early rounds,” Mokaev said. “If it’s not early rounds, probably a decision for Moreno.”

The Dagestani-born fighter, who lives in England, made headlines last month when he officially signed with the UFC. The 21-year-old is unbeaten over his six pro fights and boasts an impressive 23-0 amateur run.
