Hong Kong’s Ramona Pascual is excited for the chance to bounce back at UFC 275 after her short-notice UFC debut resulted in a loss in February of this year.
The pay-per-view event, held in Singapore’s Indoor Stadium this Saturday, see’s the 33-year-old Syndicate MMA product pitted against accomplished striker Joselyne Edwards, in a featherweight matchup to kick off the preliminary card.
Pascual, though unsatisfied with her entrance into the promotion, feels that initial loss provided her with invaluable Octagon experience, and is hoping to put that knowledge into practice come June 11.
“There’s so many take-aways from that experience,” she told The AllStar in Singapore.
“It was just good to get in there and know what it feels like to walk out, be at the Apex, go through all the medicals and the whole process of that – and so now it’s kind of familiar to me; I know how it goes. It’s just more experience to draw from.”
The former rugby union standout went on to state she was determined to prove how ‘tough’ she was in that first UFC bout – though, with a full training camp behind her under the tutelage of John Wood and the team at Syndicate MMA, she’s aiming to display a more calculated and composed performance this coming weekend opposite Edwards.
“You don’t always want to be tough, you want to be smart – you want to fight smart,” she admitted, referencing her attempts to try and appease the crowd in that three-round contest.
Pascual’s since realized there’s too much at risk for her to simply brawl her way to a win – “unless the time calls for it,” that is.
“[It] feels great, [the crowd] loves that – but it doesn’t get you the win at the end of the day, and doesn’t help you conserve your energy and push it where it counts.”
“If we keep it standing I want to fight smart standing, if we get to the ground I want to fight smart on the ground. I don’t want to overextend myself, I don’t want to get into anything that’s going to leave me too vulnerable.”
Speaking on her knowledge of the 26-year-old Edwards, Pascual noted that as they’re both based in Las Vegas, they’ve crossed paths several times; but even though they sport a somewhat ‘friendly’ relationship, that’s not a factor that will stop her from achieving her goal of victory by any means necessary.
“We’re both professionals. At the end of the day, we can be friendly, we can be respectful – but we’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna fight for our lives and take each other’s heads off.”
“I think there’s a lot on the line for both of us, and we both know that.”
