UFC 275 has lost a main card attraction.
Rogerio Bontorin was hospitalised yesterday due to complications cutting weight, just hours before he was scheduled to take the scales, leaving the surging Manel Kape without an opponent in Singapore this weekend.
Speaking with Guilherme Cruz, Bontorin’s coach addressed the situation:
“He was in the process of cutting weight and felt a lot of pain in the lumbar area when he was 2kg [4.5 pounds] over, then he left the bathtub and it only got worse. We called Marcus, from the UFC staff, to check on him and we needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. We ran some tests and he had renal insufficiency, so he’ll stay in the hospital until tomorrow…”
The preliminary welterweight bout between Jake Matthews and Andre Fialho has replaced the fizzled fight on the pay-per-view card.

Matthews, the Aussie veteran, has been gaining increasing traction with punters in the last 48 hours; he’s currently up near 40 points from his original +160 opening, while Fialho, the power-house newcomer, slides in the opposite direction.
