Mike Trizano is set to return to the Octagon on February 5th. It’s then that he’ll face off against Canadian kickboxer, Hakeem Dawodu. Trizano likes the matchup and feels he brings more to the table than his opponent does.
“I’m super excited. I think it’s a great striking matchup. Stylistically, I go against him really well. I’m a little bit more well-rounded, I have a better ground game that I want to try and mix in there,” Trizano explained to The AllStar.
With both fighters coming from kickboxing backgrounds, this makes for a good bout for fans, according to Trizano. He knows Dawodu brings a forward pressure and is prepared to meet it head-on.

The UFC Vegas 47 match will only be Trizano’s second walk to the cage in the last two years. “The Lone Wolf” has dealt with injuries and fight cancelations in that time. But he doesn’t let frustration take control. Instead, the featherweight just puts his head down and stays on his grind.
“It’s crazy times we’re in right now and anything can happen. I was injured, then got a matchup, and it was canceled. It is what it is. I enjoy training anyway. So the competition and being able to compete at the highest level is just a bonus for me.”
The time off means that Trizano has had more freedom to work on his skills for his return. He’s always down to learn some new techniques, but it all comes back to the basics.
“Sometimes it’s good to train and improve and not worry about a fight,” Trizano revealed. “When you’re in fight camp, you train certain things based on how your opponent is going to possibly come at you. So, you put a game plan together and work on that plan nonstop. You’re out of camp, you get to try new stuff you wouldn’t normally try and add some things to your bag of tricks.
“Everybody is looking for that highlight-reel knockout. I can’t blame them, but those are few and far in between. Most knockouts and most finishes, whether it’s on the ground or on the feet, it’s just your basic strikes, your basic submissions. Your rear-naked chokes, your guillotines, jabs, crosses, and hooks, those are what put people out.”
